Free Crochet Afghan Pattern: Fall Forever Blanket

The Fall Forever Blanket will have you falling in love with Fall. Is that too many F’s? This free crochet afghan pattern is an easy pattern for absolute beginners. This blanket, like all of my Forever Blankets, only uses double crochet stitches, making it very simple and beginner friendly. Don’t let that deter you though, because the frequent color changes and the beautiful Fall colors will keep you hooked 😉

Over the past few months I have been on a roll with blankets. Don’t ask me why. I’ve just had the itch to crochet all the blankets!

Today’s free crochet afghan pattern is another addition to my Forever Blanket series. I like to call it the Fall Forever Blanket and I think you already know why. If you haven’t seen my previous Forever Blankets, you can read more about the idea behind them here.

Whenever I create a new Forever Blanket, I like to answer a few of the most popular questions about crocheting blankets for beginners. So let’s talk about a few of those.

Is Crocheting A Blanket Easy?

Yes! Crochet a blanket is easy even if you are a complete beginner.

With the last two Forever Blankets I’ve answered a few misconceptions about blankets. One being, “Aren’t double crochet blankets boring?” And when you think about it… they’re kind of meant to be! But in the best way possible.

Crocheting this blanket is easy is because:

  • It’s all double crochet
  • It’s a mindless crochet project – work on it while you’re watching a movie!
  • You can pick it up and set it down whenever you want
  • There is a picture and video tutorial included to walk you through the whole thing

Do you believe me yet?

What’s the easiest crochet stitch for a blanket?

You probably already know there are hundreds and hundreds of stitch combinations out there. So what’s the easiest crochet stitch for a blanket? I would 100% say the double crochet.

Yes, you can create a beautiful blanket in many different ways with many different stitches. But if you’re looking for the easiest stitch with the most variety, I would choose the double crochet stitch hands down.

Why? There are so many possibilities! The double crochet stitch is easy to make once you’ve had practice and when you’re past that, the possibilities are truly endless. That’s why I’ve been having so much fun designing all of these free crochet afghan patterns for my Forever Blanket series!

Fall Forever Blanket – Yarn Used

I love, love, love the brand “I Love This Yarn!” for all of my blankets. It’s my go-to yarn for sure. You can only find this brand at Hobby Lobby and if you don’t have a store near you, you can always order online.

For this free crochet afghan pattern, I used:

  • 3 skeins Terra Cotta
  • 4 skeins Burnt Pumpkin
  • 2 skeins White

And although I really, really love this yarn, I have a few other favorites as well.

Resizing the Fall Forever Blanket Crochet Pattern

If you’ve seen my other free crochet afghan patterns, you probably already know what I’m about to say. Because all we’re using for this pattern is double crochet, it is super easy to resize and customize.

The original design for the Fall Forever Blanket crochet pattern is fairly large, but I know some people might like something different.

You can turn this blanket into a throw blanket, baby blanket, Twin size blanket, you name it.

So let me tell you exactly how to resize your crochet blanket to make it bigger or smaller:

  1. Create a gauge swatch with the yarn and hook you plan on using
  2. Measure how many stitches and rows you have in 4 inches.
  3. Take the number of the desired width of the blanket and divide by 4.
  4. Then take the number of stitches you counted in step 2 and multiply by the answer in step 3. That’s the number of stitches you should have in each row. If you’re started with a foundation chain, add 2 more chains to the end and then begin the pattern. If you’re starting with a foundation double crochet, work to that number.
