Happy Hooker Instagram Challenge – National Craft Month

Did you know that March is National Crochet Month?! Well, technically it’s National CRAFT Month so all things go! I didn’t know about this last year, but because I do now, I would love to celebrate it by hosting an Instagram Challenge. It is by far my favorite platform to connect with you on! I love seeing all of the beautiful works of art out there in the Crochet/Maker Community. Also, I’ve come to realize how amazing and supportive the Maker Community really is and I absolutely love it. So because of that, I bring you the Happy Hooker Instagram Challenge! Are you excited?!

You don’t have to be a Crocheter to participate in the Happy Hooker Instagram Challenge. The prompts will suit any kind of maker for the most part, but there are a couple topics that are geared more towards yarn makers since that’s what I’m used to! 😉

[bctt tweet=”It’s National Craft Month! Come join the fun by taking part in the Happy Hooker Instagram Challenge!” username=”Sigonimacaroni”]

This challenge will consist of 31 days of Instagram photo prompts. The point is to tell us more about yourself and why you share the love of handmade while also showing your creativity and stunning projects! Sometimes we look at Instagram photos just as photos, but there are people behind those photos who have at least one important thing in common with you: Handmade love!

Every Sunday I will be featuring my favorite photos for that week through my Instagram stories and possibly on my feed, that way others can get to know you as well! All you have to do is:

Post a photo that relates to the topic of the day and tag it with the hashtag #happyhookerchallenge

so I can find and possibly feature your photo!

I have also created a Facebook Event so that I know who all is participating. Plus, because I’m posting this a week in advance, I don’t want you to forget about it! If you need the reminder, go ahead hop over to the Facebook Event and choose “going” so that you can receive any updates and a reminder the day before the challenge starts.

If you’re hesitant on participating, remember you don’t HAVE to post a photo a day. We’re just having fun here! I know 31 days of someone else telling you want to post sounds like a big commitment, but it’s all good fun! I’ve also included days where you can post any photo you’d like BUT you gotta answer the prompt in your caption 😉

If you’d like a print out of each topic and their prompts, you can download yours by signing up on the form below!

Happy Hooker Instagram Challenge

Day 1: Meet the Maker

  • Yarn Selfie anyone?? Introduce yourself. What is your favorite craft? How did you learn to Crochet/Knit or make whatever it is that you make?! What do you love most about it? Do you “make” as a business or as a hobby? Tell us a fun, random fact about yourself and then tag a friend to do the same!

Day 2: WIP

  • What are you currently hooking up? Who are you making it for and why?

Day 3: Favorite Color to Use

  • Maybe you like neutrals or maybe you like bright, vibrant colors? Maybe you like a little bit of this and a little bit of that! Show us your favorite project, finished or in progress, that features your favorite color(s)!

Day 4: ANY PHOTO

  • What is your favorite Crochet/Knitting or other favorite Crafting Book or Magazine (digital or physical)? Why is it?

Day 5: Begins with M

  • It is March after all! Show us something handmade related that begins with an M! It can be anything from the name of your project, color, supplies, or even if you have an M size hook! Get creative 😉

Day 6: Something Pink

  • As you know, last month was Valentines Day. Did you make anything pink? Maybe you have a whole bunch of pink yarn sitting on a shelf that you haven’t used (me!). Throw that together and create and giant, beautiful pink mess!

Day 7: Yarn Cake

  • Yarn cakes have been super trendy this past year! I have loved seeing all of the yarn cakes, but I’ve actually only used one and I haven’t even finished. What have you made with your yarn cake? Show us a finished project, a wip, OR just the beautiful colors of the yarn cake you have set aside for an upcoming project!

Day 8: Throwback Thursday

  • This is going to be an every Thursday prompt! For this first one, show us one of the FIRST projects you’ve ever created. If you have a picture of your first project, awesome! I would love to see it! If you don’t have a photo that far back, just show us one of the first things you ever created so we can celebrate how far you’ve come!

Day 9: Favorite Brand

  • This is super hard to choose for me so I’m sure it is for you as well. What is your favorite brand of yarn and why? What yarn do you always gravitate towards when you head to the craft store? The yarn you see and you’re like “No, no, no I have too much of that already and I haven’t even come up with a project for it yet!” (If you don’t knit or crochet, tell us your favorite brand of supplies or something of that sort 😉

Day 10: Craft Storage

  • Where does ALL of that yarn go?! Don’t lie to me, I know you have a yarn addiction! It’s so hard not to. Where do you store your yarn or other craft supplies? Storage shelves, plastic bags, plastic bins, suitcases? You name it!

Day 11: ANY PHOTO

  • If you’re a designer, where do you get your design inspiration? How do you come up with your amazing ideas, from accessories to clothing to amigurumi! If you’re not a designer, who do you create most of your crocheted or handmade items for? Are they gifts for friends and family? Or are they hung up and laid out around your house to show off to your guests?!

Day 12: Cup in Frame

  • The famous cup in frame. If you follow me, you know this is a constant thing of mine. I am almost always crocheting with a cup of coffee in hand. But this photo isn’t strictly for coffee. Show me your drink of choice whether it be coffee, tea, smoothie, energy drink, wine, or my personal favorite… a mimosa!

Day 13: Texture

  • One of my favorite aspects of crochet is using one of the many gorgeous stitches that creates beautiful, cozy textures. Show me whatcha got, crochet or not!

Day 14: Home Decor

  • Even if you crochet or have a handmade business, I know you have some projects that are sprucing up your home decor! This can be rugs, welcome mats, bath mats, wall hangings, baskets, blankets, etc.

Day 15: Throwback Thursday

  • Show us something you created a fews months back or even a few years back if you have photos! Why did you make it and why do you love it?!

Day 16: Granny Square

  • I love that granny squares can be crocheted many many different ways! I would love love love to see all of the different kinds of granny squares you all are making! You can snap a photo of a single granny square or even a granny square blanket! What do YOU use granny squares for? Wall hangings, slippers, seat cushions, clothing, accessories?! I cannot wait to see the creativity come out on this one! A lot of people think of blankets when they think of granny squares, but they can be used for so much more!

Day 17: Something Green

  • It’s St. Patty’s Day! Show me something green! Not whipping up anything green? That’s okay, anything goes on this one. It’s a holiday after all! As long as it’s green, show it and explain why you chose that photo 😉 Don’t make me pinch you!

Day 18: ANY PHOTO

  • Who is your yarn or maker crush? We all have one, two, or a few makers that we look up to and drool over their amazing photos! I have several! There’s no way I can narrow it down to just one! Who is yours? Tag them so we can check them out!

Day 19: Workspace

  • Where does the magic happen?! If you’re in the handmade business, show us a behind the scenes look at your “office space”, your photography setup, something of that nature. If you’re a hobby maker, where do you spend most of your time making? In bed? On the couch? On the front porch? Show us your zen! If showing your home is too personal, post any photo and tell us in your caption!

Day 20: Spring Colors

  • It’s officially spring! What a Winter season we had! Let’s celebrate the first day of Spring by repping those beautiful and bright Spring colors! Soft yellows, pinks, tans, blues, greens <3

Day 21: Fruit

  • Another maker trend around Spring time is fruit! Fruit amigurumi, fruit shaped rugs, bags, purses, etc! Maybe even a Farmer’s Market bag! I’ve always wanted to make one of those.

Day 22: Throwback Thursday

  • Show us something you created a fews months back or even a few years back if you have photos! Why did you make it and why do you love it?!

Day 23: Craft Supplies

  • Are you the fancy crochet hook type? Handmade hooks by a fellow crafter/crocheter? Plastic hooks, wooden hooks, aluminum hooks, oh my! Throw ’em together or show us a picture of you using them and then tag the maker! I’m always looking for new makers to support in the hook department! Or just show us your favorite crafting supplies!

Day 24: Blanket

  • If you’ve been crocheting for a while, you’ve had to crochet a blanket of some kind, right?! This goes for baby blankets and afghans alike!

Day 25: ANY PHOTO

  • Do you listen to podcasts? Or maybe you watch podcasts on YouTube? Who is your favorite podcaster? If you don’t listen to crochet related podcasts, do you listen to any other kinds?

Day 26: Pom Poms!

  • Who doesn’t love pom poms?! I wanna see yarn poms, faux fur poms, hat poms, blanket poms, fancy poms, any poms!

Day 27: Flowers

  • I would looove to see the many different flowers out there. But if you’ve never created some sort of flower, don’t fret! Just post a photo that has some flowers peeking in from the corner, real or artificial! 😉

Day 28: Easter

  • Easter’s coming up in a few weeks! Are you making anything Easter related? What about the Crochet Easter Basket pattern I just released?? Any Easter bunnies, baskets, eggs, or anything of that sort going on?!

Day 29: Throwback Thursday

  • Our final Throwback Thursday! Show us something you created a fews months back or even a few years back if you have photos!

Day 30: Most Proud Of

  • What project have you created that you are the MOST proud of? Maybe it was an intermediate pattern that you never thought you’d be able to create on your own or maybe a project you had to frog a bajillion times until you FINALLY got it right and breathed a sigh of relief when you finished! Who was it for or why did you choose to make it?!

Day 31: Be Creative

  • Today is the FINAL day! You can take ANY picture you’d like, just be creative! Put together something that you wouldn’t normally post and have fun with it!
