Simple Chevron Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

The Simple Chevron Baby Blanket crochet pattern is quick, super simple, and free! This baby blanket consists of a simple chevron pattern repeat using four colors to make it even more special. It measures 21.5 inches by 19 inches making it a small, bassinet sized baby blanket. It would be perfect as a last minute baby shower gift because it works up really quickly. It is so easy to customize both the length and width of your chevron baby blanket and I’m going to show you exactly how to do that. Pop on a movie and let’s get to making this gorgeous, mindless baby blanket.

It’s a boy! It’s official. I’m going to have a nephew! My sister already has a little girl and when I found out she was having a boy I was beyond excited. Not only could she not handle another diva, but my niece isn’t even two yet and I can tell she’s going needs a brother to

I started designing this chevron baby blanket for two reasons. The first reason is because some of my ladies in the Crochet’dy Bunch Facebook Group need some guidance using the chevron stitch. I love my new Facebook group because I now know exactly the type of content I need to produce. If you want me to create a tutorial or pattern just for you, come join the Facebook group and let me know what you’re struggling with! We would love to have you.

If you’d like to try another double crochet Chevron stitch that has NO DECREASING, check out the Peephole Chevron Stitch.

The second reason is of course that my sister is having a baby. We didn’t know the sex before I started this blanket, but because I already had these colors in my stash and started working on it, we took that as a sign and what do ya know!? It was fate.

The Yarn

I used four colors of Caron Simply Soft and a 6mm crochet hook in this pattern. I’ve had these four colors in my stash for a few months now and I’m so happy that they came together so well in this pattern! Don’t you love when you can make a project out of the yarn in your stash?? You’ll know this is a huge success to me if you saw my Instagram post about how I have a major problem with buying new yarn!

I love this yarn because it really is simply soft, but because we’re using a bigger hook than suggested, it feels even softer and the stitches work up so smoothly.

The colors of this chevron blanket can be easily customized. You can choose to use the colors I choose, maybe different shades of pink if you’re expecting a girl, two colors instead of four, or even one color for the whole thing! No matter what, it’s going to look beautiful and you can really make it unique to you. Be sure to tag your creations @sigonimacaroni on Instagram or Facebook! I love to see them <3

The Stitch

There are so many different forms of the Chevron stitch, but I choose this one because I think it is the simplest and easiest to remember. A few of the ladies struggling with this pattern have told me that others were telling them just to make sure to count their stitches, but it’s a whole lot more than that. It depends on the stitch and pattern you choose and most importantly, it’s all about your foundation row. If you miscalculate your chains in the foundation row, it will mess up your stitch count for the pattern and you’ll end up with something wonky. Definitely double check the chain count to ensure that you didn’t make too many or too little chains.

The Foundation Row

The reason why the foundation row is so important is because you have to chain in multiples to create that chevron pattern repeat. For this simple chevron stitch, we’re going to be chaining in multiples of 10 + 1, plus 3. It sounds confusing, but I will explain. If you’re going to make your blanket the same size as mine, then you can skip this and move on to the pattern, but if you want to resize your blanket, keep on reading!

To make your blanket any size, chain in multiples of 10 until you reach your desired length. Once you’re satisfied, add those four chains to the end. That’s it! It really is simple, but if for some reason you don’t understand, please leave a comment below and I will try to explain it further.

OR if you want the math done for you, I’ve taken the time to put together a worksheet listing a number of common baby blanket sizes as well as the yardage needed for each size! Grab yourself a copy here!

Are you ready for the pattern? I think we’ve covered all the bases. Let’s get to the Simple Chevron Baby Blanket!
