I have a REALLY bad memory. Anyone else have that problem?? I also am not good at recording memories in a journal or scrapbooking or making keepsakes. I want to be better at this, but I’m just not! So I thought it would be interesting and helpful to keep a record of all of our favorite things that I, and the fam, have come across making this our Mommy & Me January Favorites.
I’ll probably write these out about three times a year; beginning, middle, end! Not only will sharing these mommy & me favorites help ME remember what my son loved at this age, but I think you will find some of these things useful! I have come across so many amazing products this month that have made life easier for me and I would love to share them with you in hopes that they could help you as well.
Today I will be interviewing myself (hee hee 😉 and my 3-year-old little man. Once the hubby comes home, he’ll be included in the next two! That way maybe you can get some gift ideas for the men in your life!

Mommy & Me January Favorites
What is your Favorite Book?
Unfortunately, I don’t read as often as I used to. I used to read at least 5 books a month. People would call me Belle… Not really, but that would be pretty cool if they did.
My point is, I don’t read often but my mother-in-law bought me this amazing book for Christmas. If you’re looking to up your social media game, you need to read it! He has such detailed insight about every single social media platform; Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest. He explains the algorithm of each network, what kinds of content you should be sharing to each, and a whole lot more.
Little Man: Fox on Sox by Dr. Seuss AND There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat by Lucille Colandro
My kid LOVES books so it’s hard to choose his favorites, but when it comes to Fox on Sox, he cracks up every time I read it. I’m talking he laughs so hard his tummy starts hurting. I’m already a pretty animated reader so I’m sure that contributes to it a little bit, but this entire book is about rhyming and tongue twisters so he finds it hilarious.
Then there’s There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my Instagram Story where he was reading this book. We’ve read it so many times he’s basically memorized it and it is the absolute cutest thing to hear him read. I might even upload some videos below.
What is your Favorite Toy?
Mommy: My iPad!
My father-in-law was crazy enough to buy me an iPad for Christmas. This is something I NEVER would have bought for myself because I don’t like spending money on myself when I think it could go to my son or the house or in savings where it would do more good. Well, he knows me well and because he knew I would never get one for myself, he was sweet enough to get one for me. Now I’m starting to wonder how the hell I ever lived without it! It’s amazing. I do everything business related on my iPad, that way my phone isn’t always running out of memory and I can separate work and personal, most of the time.
Little Man: Transformers, Rescue Bots
These Rescue Bots have been his favorite toys for MONTHS now. He plays with them pretty much all day. He brings them in the car, takes them to the park, and they HAVE to be in bed with him every night! And of course he makes me watch the show whenever possible.
What is your Favorite Movie?
Mommy: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
This was a tough one for me! I LOVE Netflix and I love me some movies! But I think Chris Pratt is an amazing actor and this movie is action packed and hilarious. My son loves it too, which is amazing because hello, am I the only one who’s tired of watching cartoons all the time?!
Little Man: Captain Underpants, no question.
I remember reading these books as kids and I loved them. I’m thrilled that they finally came out with a movie. I’m telling you, this movie was for real made for my kid. It is the ULTIMATE boy movie and it is just so him. He acts just like the kids in the movie and I know he’s going to grow up with the same goofy imagination and fart/potty humor. I think I’m going to buy the books for him as well because I know he would love them.
What is your Favorite TV Show?
Mommy: New Girl, and it always will be!
New Girl is the best! When I’m in a funk or if I’m just down in the dumps one day, if I watch this, there is absolutely no way I can make it through an episode without laughing. It’s the best. But I also love every single one of the Marvel TV shows. Black Mirror is really good too, but it pretty much f’s up my brain. I honestly can’t put it any nicer because that’s how bad it is! Then again it’s just addicting! Have you seen it??
Little Man: Transformers Rescue Bots, of course.
Just like the toys, he LOVES the show and if for some reason his toys aren’t near him when he asks to watch it, he will search everywhere before he lets me press play. I think I’ve seen each season at least 4 times…
What’s your Favorite Food?
Mommy: Chicken and Zuchinni with White Rice
I hate cooking. Hate it. But I’m trying really really hard to eat better which means… cooking. Surprisingly, this meal takes a bit of work with all the mixing and the dipping and the chopping and the rice making, HOWEVER, it is delicious AND healthy AND my son loves it! Which is surprising. I found this recipe on Pinterest from The Recipe Critic. If you’re looking for dinner ideas you should definitely try this!
Also, I was grocery shopping the other day and found this box of frozen Chicken Cordon Bleu. Some would think, Ew sick. Boxed food is gross… Girl, you haven’t tried this boxed food! I can’t tell you how much I love these! I could eat them all day, every day, forever and freakin’ ever. So delicious. It tastes like you just ordered it from a restaurant. And of course I make my own rice to go with it. Mmmm perfecto! I bought them at the Commissary so I’m not sure if they’re available anywhere else, but you should totally look!
Little Man: Biscuits and Gravy
As you know, this kid is a picky eater. Sometimes it’s hard for me to feed him anything! He either says he’s not hungry or he just doesn’t like anything I give him (and I try everything!). But when it’s comes to Biscuits and Gravy, he will scarf that crap down!! He LOVES it and it makes me so happy! My take away from this is, we’re gonna have Biscuits and Gravy every night for dinner. If you’re interested in trying it, this is the recipe we use except instead of 3 cups of milk, we use 1/4 heavy cream 🙂

What is your favorite Activity?
Mommy: Getting out of the dang house!
I feel like that doesn’t happen very often anymore and I’m going mad! Since my husband is deployed, my sister moved, and my best friend turned into an ass, I feel isolated! I haven’t lived here for very long so my “friends” are really my husband’s friends and I don’t feel like I can call them without him being here. I need friends. How do you make friends when you’re a stay at home mom??!
Little Man: Cars, cars, cars, and more cars.
Other than his Rescue Bots (and they actually count because they’re cars too), he is obsessed with all things cars. Of course, that’s a typical boy for you. Let me tell you a short, but funny story. One day, my car got a flat tire in the middle of our road trip from my moms house to back home ( a 4 and a half hour drive). I was carrying him as we walked into a random car repair store in a really small town. When we walked in, there were car parts EVERYWHERE. This child literally jumped out of my arms like we were in a dang toy store! I don’t even know how he knew they were car parts, but he sure knew.
Mommy’s Favorite Products
Just in case you’re interested, I wanted to write a list of my favorite products at the moment that you might be interested in as well! Some are useful around the house, some have been game changers to my son’s learning development, some are business and productivity related. Basically, I’m just gonna list all the things that I love.
Home Life/Personal Care
These are amazing! I’m so sad that I didn’t know about these before. I always passed by them in the store and because they are so cheap I assumed they were just crappy. Then the other day I was at the Commissary, I saw these air fresheners and thought I might as well give them a try since they were only 80 cents! Yeah, it smells beautiful. I put it in my son’s bathroom because he has a stinky butt and it has never smelled better! Haha!
I cannot say enough amazing things about E.L.F. They are my favorite makeup company and their products are all I ever use. What’s even better is they are extremely affordable. I’m not a huge makeup person so I’ve never felt the need to shop at Ulta, Sephora, or any other high end makeup store. Totally fine for other people, just not for me! But E.L.F. has a ton of different products, beautifully colored lipsticks, and even better, they have foundation for those who are acne-prone, which is something I’ve always struggled with. I couldn’t recommend them more.
Remember when I said my toddler was a picky eater? I bought this Recipe Box so that I could keep track of the food he actually DOES eat! It comes with already made (adorable!) flower designed recipe cards also! A lot of boxes that come with the recipe cards are expensive, but this one isn’t too bad. I bought this for my sister for Christmas and then I realized how much I would love it too! This one is from Amazon, but you can also get beautiful personalized Recipe Boxes over on Etsy as well, if you’re interested!
For the Kids
I could go on and on about this Leapfrog Reader so I will be creating a separate post all about it in the future! For now, let me tell you about two of my toddler and my favorites. He has the Leapfrog LeapStart and Leapfrog Reader. My son is 3 and I know I’ve said this before, but he loves books. With Leapfrog Reader, this child is going to be reading within the next 6 months! It is absolutely amazing. With LeapStart, it’s kind of like a pad that has a variety of book inserts that you can buy separately. I really can’t say enough amazing things about Leapfrog. Hence why I said I wanted to write a post about it!
I am so excited to finally start working on creating a little learning center/reading nook in our home! We bought these shelves to hold all of his books while the storage bins hold all of his learning toys. I absolutely love them. They come in a set of three; the bookshelf, storage bins, and a table set. We only have the bookshelf and storage bins as of now, but we’re still working on getting everything set up and ready. I’m crocheting these beautiful pillows to add a bit of color as well! We will probably be getting the table next week because it’s on the pricier side, but they come as a set so who can resist?! I love them. I’ll be creating a post on how to set up the perfect reading/learning center as well so stay tuned! 😉
I bought this book as a fun creative outlet. I have plenty of notebooks that I use for business related purposes and those need to be straight forward so that I stay on schedule and productive. But I also wanted to have something to use to write what was going on in my personal life in a fun, creative way. This journal does just that. I’m a creative person and I could easily doodle and make my pages look pretty, kid of like bullet journaling, but I ain’t got time for that! I love this book because the pages are beautiful and fun and each one is different.
This calendar was created by the same lady who created the Every Day is Epic book. Like I stated before, I love creative things and because I don’t feel like I have time to create these things on my own, I like that my exact style is already right in front of me. I use this to schedule all of my blog posts, remind me of deadlines, when I should send out emails, etc. In the side bar it always has different sets of tasks. January has “need to do” “want to do” and “worry about it next month”. It also has a monthly review on the page right after the calendar. It’s the best. It is similar to my planner, but I personally like to have my plans written down in multiple places just in case I lose track of one in one form or the other. (I have a toddler, remember?!)
I love this planner too! It is the best. There is a section for everything; monthly goals to work on in both your business and personal life, weekly schedules to plan out your week, ‘must do’s’ at the end of each day, notes on the side of each week (I use this to plan out my weekly goals), big days you have to remember, a monthly reflection page, stickers, and even a cleaning schedule in the back of the planner! I love the colors of the planner and you can tell Ruth, the blogger who created this planner, has really put a lot of thought into it. Also, she has a Facebook group along with free videos and printables just to go along with this planner. The videos talk about how to use the planner, points you to your goals, and how to stay productive. It’s awesome!
That is all! I believe there are more than normal because it is the beginning of the year which means I’ve bought A LOT of new things to improve my life (don’t we all those first few weeks of the New Year??)
Did you buy any sort of planner or supplies to make you more productive this year? What are some of your favorites?? I would love to hear more about you!
